Hiking ideas in Cuiseaux

Situated on the border between the Bresse and Jura regions, Cuiseaux is a great starting point for a walk.

From the Hôtel Vuillot, you can easily reach the village’s narrow streets or quickly head uphill toward the first slopes of the Revermont.

Whether you are looking for a leisurely stroll or a more vigorous hike, here are three routes for exploring the area on foot, starting from our hotel in Cuiseaux.

A walking tour of old Cuiseaux

Start with a leisurely walk through Cuiseaux, an ancient medieval town nestled at the foot of the Revermont hills.

From the hotel, set out to explore the narrow streets, historic houses, and remnants of the town's fortifications.

You will pass the Porte du Verger a relic of the medieval defensive walls before continuing past the Renaissance facades and houses in the town center.

An easy walk perfect for families or simply for getting some fresh air without committing to a long hike.

🥾 Distance: approx. 2–3 km

The scenic route to Chevreaux Castle

Want to head for the heights? This hike gradually leaves Cuiseaux behind, making its way to Chevreaux and the hills overlooking the Bresse plain.

The route takes you past the ruins of Chevreaux Castle, perched high above the landscape.

Continue on to the Châtel viewpoint and its orientation table; on a clear day, the panoramic view stretches far across the Bresse region.

Make sure to wear sturdy shoes, as the terrain becomes more challenging as the walk progresses.

🥾 Distance: approx. 12 km

The Croix de Gizia: a hike for avid walkers

For a more strenuous outing, head toward Gizia and the cross that overlooks the valley.

This loop of around 15 kilometers offers a different perspective of the area, featuring forest paths, steady climbs, and views of the Jura foothills.

With an elevation gain of approximately 570 meters, this hike requires a bit more stamina.

Make sure to set aside time to enjoy the viewpoints along the way they are the highlight of this lovely outing around Cuiseaux.

🥾 Distance: approximately 16 km

Return to Hôtel Vuillot after your hike

After covering several kilometers on the trails, you will appreciate returning to Hôtel Vuillot and the comfort of one of its 15 air-conditioned rooms, which can accommodate up to four guests.

In fine weather, take advantage of our heated outdoor pool and terrace.

In the evening, there is no need to go out again: the hotel restaurant awaits, offering traditional cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients.
