Discovering the Roche de Solutré
A must-see in Burgundy, the Roche de Solutré rises to 493m. Once at the summit, you can enjoy a sublime panorama of the Alps, the Mâconnais mountains and nature.
The history of the Roche de Solutré is fascinating: occupied by man for over 55,000 years, it is also known as the birthplace of a famous white wine, Pouillé-Fuissé. Others know it as the annual ascent of President François Mitterrand in the 1980s.
This Natura 2000-listed Grand Site de France is home to a rich and varied flora and fauna, with no fewer than 40 protected species. At the foot of the rock, the Maison du Grand Site (Grand Site House) has a very interesting exhibition area where you can find out more about the site.
The best way to discover the Roche de Solutré is to take the footpath to the summit. Once you've made the ascent, it's time for the show!
