    20 km from Louhans offers to visitors remains with medieval ramparts, fortified gate from the twelfth century, called "the verger", its narrow streets. Throughout your walk, you will also admire the Renaissance houses, the castle of the Princes of Orange and Chapel of St. Jacques from the fifteenth century. The church has statues from the thirteenth century and carved stalls from the sixteenth century. Complete your visit with the Vineyard and Vine museum : until the late nineteenth century, Cuiseaux was an important wine region, but today, only a few remaining vines are still on the hillsides. The house, cellars, warehouses and barns reconstitute the daily life of a winemaker in the nineteenth century.

    A few kilometers away, Cuisery, first book village of Burgundy: 15 bookshops, antique shops and workshops (bookbinders, printers) opened throughout the year, since 1999, offer antique and modern books, newspapers, prints, etc... Great book market every 1st Sunday of each month.

    Offers the charm of a small town with a rich past, located near the Seille, one of the most beautiful navigable rivers in France. As a real tradition, the Bresse poultry market takes place every Monday morning. Venue not to be missed by Bressans, which also found producers and buyers, the market attracts visitors with its authenticity. It is classified as a "remarkable site of taste." The main street lined with 157 arches and 400 meters long with its houses from the fifteenth century, the ancient streets and courtyards are the historical heart of the city. They can be visited along a route - Discovery Walking - with explanatory panels. Take the towpath from the port of Louhans along the Seille during few miles, you probably meet boaters and a few fishermen with their tents installed in the path of night fishing.

  • Living Museum of the Bresse Bourguignonne

    Built in 1680 by Claude de Thiard de Bissy, the castle of Pierre de Bresse and its French gardens have been beautifully preserved. The three main buildings equipped with four round towers,are topped by a slate mansard roof and surrounded by moats. The castle has been the propoerty of the Saône et Loire county council since 1956 and has housed an ecomuseum since 1981.In the various rooms of the castle, the authenticity of the Bresse Bourguignonne is illustrated through the natural, gastronomic and cultural heritage that it has managed to preserve. The museum presents different aspects of daily life and culture in Bresse, highlighting its history, natural environment, local arts and traditions, along with today's economy. Eight branch museums throughout the territory of Bresse also present traditional professions. The castle hosts various temporary exhibitions and offers a variety of concerts open to the public.

    Both, young and old, will enjoy a day at Louvarel leisure base with its many activities (swimming, fishing, pedal boating, hiking). The leisure base covers an area of 55 hectares. It includes a lake and a swimming pool,bordered by a sandy beach. This equipment invites you to walk, it also helps develop the fishing and boating activities. You can also go horseriding on the banks of the water. Moreover, a typical grove Bressan was restored and allows the discovery of the flora and fauna.     No less than 180 kilometers of roads cross the canton. Some take you to the heart of the Bresse and its groves, others lead you to the bottom of small remote or on the first plateaus of the Jura to the discovery of magnificent panoramas where the view reigns without obstacles.
    During these hikes nature offers you its secrets, the paths offer step by step a great diversity of charms: small meadows, forest, streams, here and there a square of vineyard, clearings, shady paths in the course of which the Flora and fauna are discovered if one knows how to pay attention to them.
    The deep reality of the region is also found in the crossing of the villages with their small church, with the flowered Bressan farms, and in the encounter with here a wash house, an old mill or a fountain ...

    For anglers, rivers of the 1st and 2nd categories criss-cross the township and offer splendid fishing spots.

    You can also rent a quad in Dommartin les Cuiseaux and go hiking on the first foothills of the Jura but watch out: Respect nature!
